2013.03.30 Cairns: Palm Cove

During our trip we had two free days, and one of them was today.  A few exchange students went skydiving right over the beach, which is really cool.  But most of us wanted to visit a beach while we were in the tropics, so we found a bus that takes you to a beach outside of Cairns called Palm Cove.

This is the first morning we were actually able to sleep in, so we were lively.

Even though Palm Cove is not far from Cairns, we are the first stop in Cairns and have to wait through all of the other stops - all in all it took 40 minutes to get there.

It was a pretty standard beach day (relaxing on the beach, going in the water, volleyball, etc). so this will be a short post, but there was a few interesting things I saw while I was there.  The waters of tropical Queensland are fairly dangerous, being the home of dangerous sharks and, more prevalently, lethal jellyfish (stingers).

To mitigate the risk, there is a netted off area which you can swim in.

Outside of that it was a normal beach day.  It was a perfect beach day and the water was incredibly warm.  There was also a pier on the far end of the beach that many were fishing off of - I visited it to take some pictures.  Here's some of the best that show the view from the beach and the pier.

We stayed at the beach nearly all day, heading back to Gilligan's around 7:30.  That night was a pretty relaxed night, although I did run into another brother from my fraternity in Cairns!  Pretty cool coincidence.
