2013.03.06 Gabriela's Birthday Celebration

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday classes had gone by seamlessly... especially Wednesday's classes, since I didn't have any!  But that day was also Gabriela's birthday which meant we had a reason to celebrate and drink.

After discussing Spring break plans and booking a flight for it (more on this in my next post!) we headed up to her room ahead to her.  Several pizzas, a cake, cases of beer, chips and dip, and other snacks were waiting for her.

When she did arrive, we lit the cake and sang happy birthday to her.  Actually, we sang it twice.  The first time in English, the second time in Spanish.  Anybody that was from a Spanish speaking country like Mexico or Bolivia, or anybody that knew enough Spanish chimed in.

Once the singing and cake cutting was over and people had some food and beer in their hand the drinking games began.  It started with Jenga where each piece had a person's face on it and a drinking rule associated with that person.  So, for instance, if I pulled a Jenga piece with Wilfrido's face on it I'd have to finish my drink.  The rules were meant to be somewhat associated with each person's personality.

After enough time and alcohol we graduated from Jenga to a German game Julia showed us.  It was very similar to beer ball, for those of you that know it, but in larger teams.  Two teams lined up in the street while a bottle of water was placed in the center.  To start, one member of my team throws a water bottle, aiming to knock over the one in the center.  If my teammate knocks it over, everybody on my team begins drinking their beer while a member of the other team runs to the center, fixes the water bottle in the center, and runs back.  Once the other team member is back in his line, my team must stop drinking.  The teams take turns at knocking the water bottle over, and to win everybody on my team must finish their beer.

The night was a long one with more time spent playing drinking games outside and in Gabriela's apartment.  Eventually everybody headed back to their places to get some sleep before class the next morning.
